Screenshot or Record a Screen
When contacting CommTrak Support, it often assists the Support Team to resolve issues more quickly if a screenshot or screen-recording is provided, as we will be able to see exactly which screen you are working on, and what issues you are experiencing, including error messages, etc.
This article refers to features and utilities that we have tested in Windows 10/11, but may be available in earlier versions of Windows.

There are many ways to take a screenshot in Windows; we describe three methods below:
Method 1: Print Screen Key
Press the Print Screen key on your keyboard!
The print screen key is typically labelled as PrtSc or Prtsc/SysRq. On most keyboards, this key is located in the top row of keys, to the right of the function keys.
After pressing the print screen key, nothing appears to happen, but your whole screen is copied to the clipboard. You can now paste the screenshot into an email message with right-click > Paste (or Ctrl-V).
Alternatively, you can paste the image into another application and crop and edit it, if needed.
Method 2: Windows Snipping Tool / Snip & Sketch
Newer versions of Windows typically include Microsoft's Snip & Sketch or the Snipping Tool utility.
On most Windows installations, pressing Windows Logo key + Shift + S, will display the snipping tool. If the key combination doesn't work, you can find the snipping tool utility by using the Windows Start menu.
There is a useful summary of features on the Microsoft website: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/open-snipping-tool-and-take-a-screenshot-a35ac9ff-4a58-24c9-3253-f12bac9f9d44.
Method 3: Third-Party Screenshot Utilities
If you frequently take screenshots, and need to edit them, a more sophisticated screenshot utility can be a great time-saver.
Although we do not recommend use of specific screenshot utilities, we have tried the following, and have found them to be easy to use and effective:
Use of the following software is at your own risk.
- Greenshot (free, Open Source)
- Techsmith Snagit (Commercial software)
Screen Recording
Some versions of Windows 10 include a screen-recording utility, but it is not described in this article because it is primarily intended for recording game-play and often excluded from Windows business installations. If you would like to learn more about Window's built-in screen recorder, please see the Microsoft article: Capture and share videos with Game bar.
Although we do not recommend use of a specific screen-recorder, we have tested the following, and have found them to be easy to use and effective:
